FAQs

Why should I publish with Inkubator?

We offer a unique package of editorial and marketing skills. With our Writers Room process, we can help you develop your book until it has real bestseller potential. And with our deep understanding of the Amazon ecosystem we can launch your book to give it the best possible chance of success. Also, we know the Kindle Unlimited market and we can help you access that readership. (Many people don’t appreciate the size of Kindle Unlimited – but if it was removed from the Amazon platform it would be the second biggest bookstore in the world).

That does sound pretty good. Anything else?

We are both writers. We confront the blank page every day. We feel your pain.

How much will it cost me to have my book published by Inkubator?

Nothing. Not a penny. Ever.

How are sales receipts divided up?

We will send you 45% of all money received from Amazon for sales of your book. We will keep the remaining 55% from which we will we take our fee and pay for the editing, cover design and ongoing marketing of your book.

How often will I get paid?

Monthly – not more than three weeks after we receive payment from Amazon.

What about film and TV rights?

Inkubator reserve the right to negotiate film and TV rights on behalf of the author for the term of the contract. We will keep 25% of all revenue earned from any such deal.

Do Inkubator go ‘wide’, i.e. do you sell books on platforms other than Amazon like Kobo, Apple, etc?

No. We believe that the Kindle Unlimited subscription service offers an opportunity that is too lucrative to pass up, so we only release books through the Amazon store. In rare cases, we may also do limited print runs through services like Ingram Sparks.

If I publish a book with Inkubator am I then free to take my next book to another publisher?

Absolutely. The only exception to that is when we publish a book in a series – we then ask for a first refusal option for subsequent books in that series.

Will Inkubator publish my book in paperback?

Yes. We publish all our books through print on demand as offered on the Amazon store.

Will Inkubator provide me with paperback copies of my book?

Yes, we will send you two paperback copies of your book free of charge. If you need more than that, we will offer them to you at cost price plus postage and packing.

This whole Writers Room idea doesn’t really sound like me. What if I prefer to write alone with the minimum of input from others?

That’s absolutely fine. We know that all writers have their own process and we respect that.

Can I design my own cover?

No. We believe a strong cover is crucial for sales success, so we only use covers provided by carefully selected and very experienced graphic designers. However, we will listen carefully to your thoughts and suggestions on any possible design and incorporate them as best we can.

What is Inkubator’s ambition for my book?

We only take on books which we feel have a realistic chance of breaking into the top 200 in the UK Amazon store and and the top 1000 in the US Amazon store. And we would hope to do a lot better than that.

What if my book has already been published?

That’s okay as long as the rights have now reverted to you. If they haven’t, then we can only consider your book if you have held onto the digital rights.

How long does it take Inkubator to decide whether to publish my book?

We will get back to you within four weeks.

Does Inkubator accept submissions from writers who do not have an agent?

Yes.

Does Inkubator pay an advance?

No.

Do I need to have my book professionally edited before I send it to Inkubator?

No, we provide developmental and copy editing for all our books. But a pristine manuscript, i.e. without lots of typos, missing words, etc, is always appreciated.
